The Riverside at Aymestrey is a 16th Century traditional inn situated on the southern edge of Mortimer Forest near Leominster in Herefordshire.
Our rooms are all individually furnished, some with 400-year-old beams embedded in the walls. One is also individually haunted by the friendly lady from the river. Our suites are lovely and large, each consisting of a sitting room and bedroom en suite. The Hayloft suite overlooks the river and opens out directly onto the ornamental terrace gardens which in turn looks out over the valley. The Stable suite opens onto the courtyard and is perfect for the less mobile. The rooms all overlooking the River Lugg/Aymestrey countryside and comes with a flat-screen TV, Noble Isle toiletries and homemade biscuits.
Breakfast is always individually and freshly cooked using local ingredients, including freshly laid eggs from the village which is crucially important for the special recipe, scrambled eggs.
The bar and restaurant have been deliberately kept in a traditional style – log fires, candles, hops and oak beams, bricks and stone. There is plenty of space by the river or in the terrace garden to eat when the weather allows and a wander around our kitchen garden is highly encouraged! We offer hand-pulled real ales from Cleobury Mortimer and Stoke Lacey; with cider from Tenbury Text taken from bandbstays.co.uk Wells and Leominster.
We consistently promote local produce from the North Herefordshire, Welsh Border and South Shropshire farms and specialist producers. On a daily basis, myself and my fabulous team in the kitchen, regularly forage in the meadows, hedgerows and riverbank for wild garlic, elderflower, nettles and more, cleverly using what is naturally available.
We have a good selection of circular walks ranging from 3 to 15 miles length – the most popular takes you to an Iron Age Hill Fort then onto Croft Castle with its 1000 years of history. You can walk from Ludlow to Kington over two or three days and see some of the most stunning views in Herefordshire. With the Riverside Inn as a base, you can comfortably visit five golf courses, the Black and White Village Trail, Ludlow, Hereford, houses and gardens, heritage sites, breweries, cider presses, cheese-wrights, visitor centres & country parks.
