Compton House Hotel offers outstanding bed and breakfast accommodation just a short stroll from the historic Somerset town of Axbridge. We are located on the edge of the magnificent Mendip Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering stunning views across the Somerset Levels.
Our magnificent Grade II Listed Georgian country house is perfect for an unforgettable holiday in an elegant setting. Our five charming and generous bedrooms have many original historic features, which have been furnished with family furniture to provide that delightful, homely feel that many guests appreciate. They have all been superbly equipped with plenty of mod cons. Our five bedrooms are:
The Elizabethan Room - This is our oldest bedroom, with a four-poster bed set into the original beams and the original 1587 fireplace. An oak door leads to a large private dressing/bathroom with a claw-foot iron bath.
The Panel Room - This is a spacious panelled room with intriguing carvings, a six-foot 4 poster bed and splendid views across the Somerset Levels. The roll-top bath on a raised wooden plinth within the room helps to make it a romantic setting for honeymooners and guests seeking a romantic escape.
The South Room - If you prefer a bright and airy room with great views across the Somerset Levels then the South Room might be your choice. The room has a Queen size Sleigh bed and as there are three steps down to the shower area this room may not be suitable for guests with walking disabilities.
The Fry Room - This room is named after the Fry family who lived here in the 1700s; this is a compact, elegant room with twin beds and a bathroom. It sits on the roadside with views towards Fry Hill and has shuttered windows.
The Text taken from bandbstays.co.uk Tilley Room - Named after the Tilley family who lived here (of Tilley Lamp fame and also the Tilley’s made cheese here); this is an attractive bright double room with large shower and views towards Axbridge town.
Breakfast is a wholesome affair; you can choose all or some of the following - cereals, local yoghurts, juices, toasts/croissants, local sausage and bacon and much more. Vegetarian breakfasts are also provided and we can cater for the smaller appetite as well. You can also have breakfast at a time that suits you and we serve complimentary tea/coffee during your stay.
Whole house available for let on a self catering basis includes 7 bedrooms (sleeping 13), 6 bathrooms, 2 dining rooms, 1 sitting room and 1 TV room, 1 large kitchen and full use of the garden.
Compton House lies at the west end of Axbridge - a medieval town mentioned in the Domesday Book. With the Cheddar Caves, historic Wells and Bath, meditative Glastonbury and bustling Bristol on our doorstep, we offer more than just an ideal place to break your journey westward. If its action and adventure you're after, then try rock climbing and caving or walk, cycle, horse ride, play a round of golf, paraglide, balloon, go-cart or try the nearby dry ski slopes. Simply explore Somerset crafts and carnivals, National Trust properties, Bristol theatres and docks and much more. Within walking distance are 2 lovely restaurants.
